Our theme for January 16-27, 2012 is Authors and Illustrators!

...all courses of study offered by an educational institution.

The GBT Children’s Academy curriculum is designed to be progressive and inclusive to develop the fullest potential of all children under its care. Our curriculum encompasses four areas of development:

  • Spiritual Development
  • Cognitive Development
  • Social Development
  • Physical Development

Unlike an elementary school setting where subjects are taught separately, all areas of development are integrated throughout the day, week, and month through a unifying Bi-Weekly Theme for the entire Academy. For example, if the monthly theme is Spring, the teacher can teach a gardening lesson and integrate a pre-math activity by asking the children to count the leaves. Our weekly classroom schedules reflect the areas of development found in the Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines.

Each developmental age group will be different, and teachers can create activities and projects that tie into the Academy’s themes but are developmentally appropriate for their students. However, with this, teachers are encouraged to challenge students because research shows that children will achieve if they are given higher standards to reach. Therefore, every developmental level at GBT Children’s Academy will be exposed to all four areas of development.

Under the Tree Reading Program

Our curriculum emphasizes the development of the whole child with strong concentration on literacy skills. Our Under the Tree Reading Program encourages children ages six weeks to six years to indulge themselves in the love of books. As a part of our daily routines, each age group will "sit under the tree" in their individual classrooms.  Our Meadow Room displays a vividly colored illustration painted of a tree on the wall in center of the preschool classroom. The children will be immersed in literacy through phonemic awareness, phonics, print awareness, vocabulary and other literacy skills. Stories will reflect themes while addressing key concepts such as colors, numbers, rhymes and patterns.

Language Development

The GBT Children's Academy emphasizes not only on teaching English, but also Spanish and American Sign Language. Every week, at least three new signs or Spanish words are introduced, even in the Infant Room! The Academy's goal is to enable children to communicate with various types of individuals including the hearing impaired, and Spanish-speakers. Children can learn words through signing before they can talk!

Learning Centers

Each age-appropriate classroom at the GBT Children's Academy includes learning centers where the children can explore what their classrooms have to offer. These centers promote a welcoming environment that meets the needs of children, parents and teachers.  Some centers offer practice in various life skills development area, while others focus on fine and gross motor skills.  Listed below are some of the learning centers that the Academy offers:

  • Writing Center
  • Block Center
  • Art Center
  • Discovery Area
  • Dramatic Play Area
  • Math and Science Center
  • Reading Area
  • Puzzle Center
